WARRIOR – HEALER – LECTURER – AUTHOR Soke Sam Gervasi, one of Australia’s leading exponents in martial arts and in fields of natural health, is the founder and head instructor of the Australian and International Ju-jitsu/Karate Dojos and the founder and principal of the International College of Martial Arts and Natural Therapies. Innovative and dynamic he has blended his knowledge of boxing, martial arts and his love of the healing arts to become one of the most well regarded and respected martial artists in Australia.
Originating from a small provincial town in Sicily, Italy, Soke Gervasi migrated to Australia at the age of nine. His formative years were spent honing his skills in the art of boxing, coached by Harry ‘Snowy’ Doran, 1946 Victorian Boxing champion. A career decision and his affinity with boxing led him in search of something offering similar ingredients. After much consideration of other styles and clubs Soke Gervasi came under the tutelage of Shihan Wayne Brabham, who was instructing in the art of Ju-Jitsu. Inspired by the energetic classes Shihan Gervasi signed up (in 1973) with the humble goal to achieve a yellow belt. However with will and determination he achieved the coveted black belt in 1978. By the time Shihan Brabham had retired from martial arts he had graded Soke Gervasi to 4th Dan (July 1989). This was the catalyst that led Soke Gervasi to travel extensively to many countries to broaden his training and teaching, along the way gaining valuable information from many Masters who were experts in the fields of anatomy and traditional Eastern Medicine. Soke Gervasi has been able to incorporate this knowledge along with his own studies in Shiatsu, pressure points, sports injury massage and herbal medicine to offer a well rounded schooling in martial arts and natural healing.
Whilst undertaking his world-wide search of knowledge Soke Gervasi was privileged to be taken under the guidance of two of the most renowned Ju-Jitsu masters in the world, Professor Wally Jay (10th Degree Small Circle Ju-Jitsu) and Professor Don Jacob (9th Degree Purple Dragon Ju-Jitsu). In March 1996, Soke Gervasi was graded to 6th Dan by both professors. In the same year he was awarded the prestigious accolade of Ju-Jitsu Instructor of the year at the Blitz Hall of Fame Martial Arts awards.
In 1996 Soke Gervasi established a volunteer program called Operation M.A.C.H. (Martial Arts Community Help), with the main focus being to help those less fortunate and in genuine need of assistance. Soke Gervasi along with his students provide volunteer help such as gardening, lawn mowing, cleaning, painting and repairing odd jobs around the home.
He is also a published author of the book “The Complete Guide to Safety and Awareness” and has published several Martial Arts magazines. His status in the Martial Arts community has also led him to be featured on many magazine covers such as Blitz and Impact to name a few.
A mentor to all his students, his classes are fun, informative and above all educational. His technique and skill in Ju-Jitsu and Karate is not only sharp and lethal but breathtaking to watch, his whole persona radiates a serene warmth and friendliness that is felt by all who cross his path. Soke Gervasi is a true inspiration to students and peers alike.

Bailey Lambert - 10/02/2018 My Martial Arts Journey: My name is Bailey Lambert and I am 16 years of age, I joined the Australian and International Ju-Jitsu/Karate Dojos and International College of Martial Arts and Natural Therapies in 2011 and started my Martial Arts journey. I am amazingly happy and favoured to state that I have had the chance to train with Soke Sam Gervasi. I began at 11 years old, over these years I have learned numerous physical and mental extraordinary abilities. Martial Arts has totally changed my life in such a remarkable way. I rapidly became hopelessly enamoured with Martial Arts at the school, preparing in Ju-Jitsu, Karate and later, after Boxing/Kick-boxing and Traditional Weapons. Since beginning, I have picked up a huge measure of trust in myself and I would now be able to do things I would've never possessed the capacity to manage without the assistance of Soke Sam Gervasi. When I first joined I was a person who was shy, nervous and couldn’t talk in front of crowds since then that has changed. My life was pivoted in a positive experience. Throughout my journey, Martial Arts had shown me how to improve as a person throughout everyday life and dependably achieve my maximum capacity. I am a substantially more joyful individual and I am extremely grateful for the open doors that have opened up to me since I started preparing. Martial Arts has shown me a ton throughout everyday life, particularly assurance, responsibility and to have trust in myself. I have completed a various measure of Karate Tournaments and Demonstrations throughout the years and was a State Champion in 2016 and prior years. Bailey Lambert ______________________________________________________________________ Mirella Chiodo At the age of 32 I decided that I no longer wanted to be afraid and enrolled in a Walk without Fear Course. I wanted a better life for myself but knew that I did not have the skills to overcome all the obstacles that I had created for myself. Taking that first step was the hardest thing I ever did however from the very first lesson I quickly realised that I was learning strategies and skills that would be life enhancing. 14 years later I am still doing courses and seeing an impact each and every day. Soke Sam Gervasi is a true master and pioneer. His classes are fun, inspiring, and challenging. He truly wants the best for each of his students and I am so grateful that I took that first step all those years ago. If you want to give yourself a true gift and live a confident and healthy life - then you must enrol in these courses. Over this time I have not only learnt many physical skills, but also many positive life skills. I have been able to reach for the impossible, and achieve goals I never thought existed. Some of the biggest lessons I have learnt on my journey were not the physical ones. I have learnt how to be a better person, a better mother, and a better friend. I began training in courses run through 'Walk Without Fear' thinking it was just about becoming fit, not realising that it was going to take me on such a fulfilling and wonderful journey. With over 45 years experience there is always something new to learn in all that Soke does. He is a charismatic person, who is able to effectively communicate with all age groups from 4 to 80 years old. His unique style and passion for self defence is world renowned. Everybody should have the right to walk without fear, and I am proud to say that I no longer have these fears. I am confident to know that I can keep myself and my children safe no matter where we are. I am a much happier, healthier person and I am forever thankful for opportunities that have opened up to me since I began training. I cannot recommended the 'Walk Without Fear' courses highly enough, everyone should do themselves a favour and enrol in one today. You will learn life skills that will improve your life dramatically.
